Many patients inqure about the safety of anesthesia and the risks of having elective cosmetic surgery. As a board certified plastic surgeon, I perform most of my cosmetic surgery operations in accredited Maryland facilities with board certified anesthesiologists and nurses trained in taking care of cosmetic surgery patients. I do perform some cosmetic procedures in my office, but only under local anesthesia. The safety of my patients is my number one concern, and I would feel safe bringing family and friends to the facilities where I perform cosmetic surgery under anesthesia.

The age of computers and the internet has ushered in a way for patients to obtain an enormous amount of information on any aspect of cosmetic surgery. However, I caution my patients to make sure they're viewing a reliable source for their information. Several websites that I recommend include the American Society of Plastic Surgeons website, RealSelf.com, and Pubmed.com. You can be sure that these websites are recommended by board certified plastic surgeons all across the nation.

Summer is going to turn into fall soon...I can't wait for the cooler weather! I was recently asked if age was a limiting factor for a facelift. Because so many people are living longer, healthier lives age is rarely a factor against having a facelift. In fact, 60-75 is a great age range for a facelift as many people feel wonderful on the inside and want to look that same way on the outside! As long as you're cleared by your primary care physician for the procedure, you should be just fine. Wrinkles on the face, heavy jowls and cheeks, and excess hanging skin are all treated by a facelift. With the scars placed inconspicuously, healing takes about a week and the scars heal amazing well. The results will last about 10 years as long as you take good care of your skin.
